Cromerix

About the Company

Cromerix is an innovation-focused biotechnology company developing the next generation of microbial tests. We are set to revolutionise microbial testing by bringing the capabilities of gold-standard microbiological culture in an affordable, easy-to-use format at the point of care with hundredfold faster turnaround time. Our aim is to address the unmet need for point-of-care microbial testing across hospital, industry, community and home-use settings. By informing antimicrobial susceptibility in addition to microbial load rapidly at the point of care, we also contribute to limiting antimicrobial resistance, which is considered as a silent pandemic.

We based our test development on fundamental research carried out at Loughborough University. We built our product definition and conducted technology feasibility and proof-of-concept studies using start-up grants from National Biofilm Innovation Centre and Innovate UK. We are now in a pivotal stage, where we are scaling up our development and completing prototype development supported by an Innovate UK Smart grant, aiming to launch our first test for microbiological quality control in 2026. The core technology will then be extended to develop tests for other applications across industry and clinical diagnostic sectors.

Cromerix’s growth is timely with the increased global awareness on microbial infections and antimicrobial resistance post COVID-19 (UN General Assembly, 2024).
